1. فِي لَوْحٍ مَحْفُوظٍ

   (Inscribed) in a Preserved Slate.

   85:22

2. بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَجِيدٌ

   But this is an honored Qur'an

   85:21

3. وَاللَّهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ مُحِيطٌ

   While Allah encompasses them from behind.

   85:20

4. بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيبٍ

   But they who disbelieve are in (persistent) denial,

   85:19

5. فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ

   (Those of) Pharaoh and Thamud?

   85:18

6. هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ

   Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

   85:17

7. فَعَّالٌ لِمَا يُرِيدُ

   Effecter of what He intends.

   85:16

8. ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ

   Honorable Owner of the Throne,

   85:15

9. وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ

   And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

   85:14

10. إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ

    Indeed, it is He who originates (creation) and repeats.

    85:13

11. إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ

    Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.

    85:12

12. إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ

    Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

    85:11

13. إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ

    Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

    85:10

14. الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

    To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness.

    85:9

15. وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَنْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ

    And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

    85:8

16. وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ

    And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.

    85:7

17. إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ

    When they were sitting near it

    85:6

18. النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ

    (Containing) the fire full of fuel,

    85:5

19. قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ

    Cursed were the companions of the trench

    85:4

20. وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ

    And (by) the witness and what is witnessed,

    85:3

21. وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ

    And (by) the promised Day

    85:2

22. وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ

    By the sky containing great stars
